Former winners like Lesotho’s Tebello Ramakongoana, Zimbabwe’s Isaac Mpofu as well as South Africans Cian Oldknow and Elroy Galant are prime examples of the race’s legacy, as they prepare to compete at the Paris Olympics this year. With 14 countries expected to contest the World Ranking points for this regional championship, participants will be vying for acclaim and recognition as they race through the breathtaking scenery and vibrant communities of Durban. The race’s flat and fast route provides an ideal setting for personal bests, making it a favourite among runners seeking to improve their times.
Additionally, the Durban International Marathon serves as a qualifying race for the iconic Comrades Marathon, further solidifying its significance in the South African running calendar.
